Heroes 3 - How to take a Wolf Raider Picket with Luna

One of the easiest things Luna can do is to take a Wolf Raider Picket. Wolf Raider Picket is one of the creature banks and it is guarded by 50-150 Wolf Raiders. Upon defeating the Wolf Raiders, the hero's army will be joined by 4, 6, 8 or 12 Cyclopes, depending on the size of the Picket.

Wolf Raiders don’t have a lot of health (HP), so you won’t need loads of Spell power to defeat them, even if you come across a size four Picket. In that case, you can defeat them using the double wall strategy.

Special thanks to Alex the Magician whose video made this guide possible.

Preparing the Attack

First, you need to make sure that you can do enough damage to defeat the Wolf Raiders. The Wolf Raiders will be divided into five stacks of 10, 15, 20 or 30 around you. If you are going to use a single wall, you need to be doing 100 damage to do a size one picket; 160 damage to take a size two picket; 200 damage to do a size 3; and 300 damage to defeat the Wolf Raiders in a size 4 picket; If you don't do that much damage, you can use a double wall - actually, you will be using three walls, so make sure you have 18 spell points on the day. This way, you can defeat the Wolf Raiders with only 160 damage.

You'll need to have at least advanced Fire magic, so that you will have a three hex wall instead of a two hex wall. This is a very important thing, because if you try this strategy with a two hex wall, you will have problems with Wolf Raiders going around them. And that’s it, when it comes to preparing for the battle. You don’t need to have any army with you, one Pixie will suffice.

Strategy

If you are entering a battle with one Pixie, you should never wait, because you will have the same speed as Wolf Raiders. Waiting means that you will go last, and the Wolf Raiders will get to go first at the end of the turn, so they will be able to approach you. You should instead always Defend.

Using a Single Wall

You should use a single wall only if you can do enough damage to defeat the Wolf Raiders with one Firewall. You should erect an open wall - this means leaving one hex above you and one hex below you open, and hiding in the second hex behind the wall. The Firewall should be put up on the left side of the battlefield.

The Wolf Raiders will not move if you close all the hexes around you, because they are a two hex unit You should put up the Firewall right at the beginning and then move the Pixie behind it. After they all move and two stacks die, it will be your turn again. This is where you should Defend, so the remaining Wolf Raiders will come at you once again. Now, if you can do enough damage, the battle will be over and you will triumph.

Using a Double Wall

If you cannot do enough damage to defeat the Wolf Raiders in one shot, you will have to use a double wall. Unlike the first strategy, here you will first erect a closed wall.

taking-pickets-with-luna-guide-double-wall You can now hide the Pixie behind a closed wall, so the Wolf Raiders won’t move and your unit will be protected

You can now hide the Pixie behind a closed wall, so the Wolf Raiders won’t move and your unit will be protected After your Pixie is safe behind the wall, the Wolf Raiders won’t move and it will be your turn again. Now, we will erect another Firewall, in front of the one already there. Again, after erecting the Firewall, you need to Defend - and not wait! The first two stacks of Wolf Raiders will come at you, and they will die. Three remaining stacks will get closer to you, and you should now erect another Firewall, in place of the one which will disappear. Defend again, and the rest of the Wolf Raiders will try and attack you, which will result in their death.

Conclusion

It doesn’t matter which strategy you’ll use, they will both be more than sufficient to defeat the Wolf Raiders. We hope that you will find this Guide useful and that you will be able to make a strong army to do greater things!
